The Orthoceras slab table

The Orthoceras slab table, 2009
stone top set in cherry

A commissioned piece based around a 400 million year old Orthoceras fossil slab.

Cherry was chosen as its colour both sets of the dark stone and picks up the red highlights.

A technically challenging piece as every part had to be made to fit the existing stone.  I had a vision of setting the stone in a ring of cherry, much like a bezel style ring setting.
